Expanding my Knitting Repertoire
Over the holidays, I bust out into the grand world of hats. This being my second successful one -- I like it cause it's cabled.

I can't be held responsible for the colour, which actually came out a little nicer in the picture. It was chosen by the recipient of the hat.

I'm not sure that knitting was the right hobby for me to pick up; I'm allergic to wool. Which means, either the stuff that you make is all acryllic -- which is tolerable for scarves and stuff, but not much else -- or cotton, cashmere, silk, alpaca -- which is outrageously expensive. Well the cotton isn't so bad usually I guess, but it seems pretty hard to find, and often, just doesn't look quite right. Sigh.

Look for the book No Sheep for You -- full of designs specifically meant for non-wool yarns, due to the author's own wool allergies. :)

Also, nice hat!! I like the color, or at least I like the color as it shows on my screen. Dunno what I'd think of it in person.

Have you checked out shuttle works? It is by your parents house, and is a wonderland of stuff for knitting, weaving and the likes. Unfortunatly lots of it is wool, so you may want to take some claritin before you go shopping. Also, can I recommend knitting with rubber gloves on? I can hook you up with some medical ones.

No, I haven't heard of it... where's it now?

I can't imagine trying to knit in gloves! That would be really... sticky. ;) But the other problem is that while I'm experimenting, I'm mostly doing stuff for *myself* first. ;)
